YOUR RHINOPLASTY SURGERY
Your rhinoplasty will take between one and four hours, depending on the changes being made. Less time is needed to correct only internal issues (such as difficulty breathing), more time is required for cosmetic changes, and much more time is required to repair badly damaged noses (broken, or previously operated on, for example).
There is seldom pain around the nose after rhinoplasty, rather discomfort and pressure. The bruising, if you have any, is gone at two weeks. Swelling unfortunately remains much longer; after rhinoplasty it's present for six months and usually masks the changes to the underlying structure of your nose. This waiting is probably the most difficult thing for patients to endure following a nose job. Everyone wants immediate results and it's hard to have to wait many weeks to start to see the new nose appear through the swelling. In spite of the waiting, rhinoplasty is usually a happy experience with a successful result.
Dr. Smith see patients in his private Toronto office two days a week and performs surgery at Toronto East General Hospital two days a week. Most people are familiar with the nasal packing that used to follow a "nose job", but less commonly known is the current method of internal nasal stenting, which can't be seen, unless you tilt back your head and look carefully up your nostrils. For more information, contact our Toronto office at (416) 465-5795. Dr. Oakley Smith, double certified in both Otolaryngology and Facial Plastic Surgery, focuses his surgical practice on rhinoplasty (plastic and reconstructive surgery of the nose) and otoplasty (correction of aesthetic features of the external ears) for his patients in Toronto. Widely respected and experienced, he is a mentor for young surgeons in training. In his twenty-plus years in practice, he has invented new techniques in nasal surgery, refined rhinoplasty methods, designed new nasal surgical instruments and is constantly involved in improving the management and treatment of nasal surgical problems.
The cosmetic consultation fee is $175 which will be deducted from the cost of the rhinoplasty should you proceed. If it's an issue involving breathing or a functional problem, we require a referral note from your family doctor. Any activity that raises your blood pressure or increases your heart rate must be avoided for a month following nose job surgery. Any activity where your new nose is placed in harm's way must be avoided for four months. In spite of the discomfort, over 7,000 septoplasty and 700 rhinoplasty surgeries occur each year in Ontario, with the majority of people satisfied and glad they proceeded.
If you would like to learn more about nose surgery or incision-less ear surgery, we are happy to meet with you and discuss whether rhinoplasty or otoplasty would be of value in your particular situation.
